Winter Maintenance Checklist
It’s no surprise the Winter season can be a nightmare for commercial building and facilities managers.
Not only does the snow and ice present safety issues for the grounds of your facility, the harsh Winter weather can wreak havoc on your physical building as well.
However, a proper maintenance checklist can help prevent surprise damage, accidents or issues..
We have a few important items on our checklist to ensure your building and grounds are properly maintained for Winter.
- Facility roofs are critically important in the health of a building. If you have a flat roof, consider creating a solid snow/ice removal plan for inclement weather. Also make sure to keep the roof clear of debris and properly sealed.
- Slanted roofs present their own issues. With this style, keep trees trimmed and clear of the roof structure. It’s also a good idea to inspect the integrity of roof shingles.
- On the opposite end of the roof is the foundation. Inspecting for mold and moisture inside the interior walls ensures the safety and integrity of your building. Check for water seepage and ensure there is enough ventilation in all areas.
- Last, but not least is checking on your fire safety. It’s a good idea to run regular checks to prevent the storage of flammable liquids, if necessary. Check inventory on fire safety equipment like fire extinguishers as well.
These simple but important tasks are essential in keeping your building Winter-safe and prepared.
